6690 - POP RIVET - 3/8" & 1/2" WALL

I recently built two large road cases (6ft x 4ft x 2,5ft) with 1/2 plywood and the two walled aluminium extrusions. They needed to be durable and light weight. I used the longer rivets for moments where handles and latches had extra thickness, or where I wanted extra washers. Don't underestimate the amount of rivets you will need. I started with 800 and I quickly needed 900 more. So whatever you think you need, multiply it by a factor of 2. This is a rivet review, but I also want to thank Patrick for his excellent responses and effort to help me get what I needed.

However, I wish that you would have contacted us about this upon noticing an issue, so that we could have advised you as follows: 1. First, we would have requested a photo of the rivet with you holding a tape measure to it to make sure that you received the correct rivet, and not a shorter rivet by accident. 2. We would have reminded you what we mention on the product description for this rivet . . . "May be used in conjunction with parts and extrusions associated with the construction of cases with 3/8 and 1/2"walls. However, depending on your particular case design and parts selections regarding your cases utilizing 1/2" case walls, the combination of items to be riveted together may require a longer rivet in some places, such as with corner and corner brace installations, especially when internal backing washers are utilized. If you are unsure which rivet to use regarding your 1/2" case walls, we recommend that you get a 50/50 mix of this rivet and our longer CNS6700 Rivet for 1/2" case walls." Lastly, I am assuming that when you stated "6670" above, you were actually referring to our 6700 Extra Long Rivet (as we have no rivet with a part number of "6670"). You stated, "the website shows then the same length as the 6670". This is not correct. Our spec drawing for the 6690 Rivet shows its length as .812" and the spec drawing for the 6700 Rivet shows its length as .938". Easy to use and does what it is suppose to.

I know it seems strange to write a review about rivets, but they're such an important part of the build. I had never used rivets before these, so I didn't know how good they were until I ran out in the middle of a project. I went to Lowes and, sure enough, they had rivets. I brought them home to finish up and they kept breaking. Such a letdown after using these nice rivets. The moral of the story: Order these rivets and order 2-3 times as many as you think you'll need!
